Preserve WV AmeriCorps Members Preserve Historic Zion Baptist Church

Lauren Kelly, the Preserve WV AmeriCorps member serving with the Jefferson County Historic Landmarks Commission, organized 6 AmeriCorps members and 8 volunteers for a two-day preservation work day at the First Zion Baptist Church in Harpers Ferry, WV.  The historic church is currently closed and owned by the Harpers Ferry-Bolivar Historic Town Foundation, which is working diligently to preserve the building and open it as a cultural center. The group did a lot of difficult labor over the weekend and removed a non-ADA compliant wood ramp from the back of the building,  piled the debris onto the flatbed to be safely removed and disposed, and leveled the ground to get it ready for new grass planting.
