  • W. Douglas Gilpin, Jr., FAIA/NCARB
    ​A historic preservation architect, Mr. Gilpin has been project director for a large number of preservation projects, including restoration of Oak Lawn near Charlottesville; Museum projects including Ash Lawn-Highland in Albemarle County- and West Virginia projects including The North kouse in Lewisburg; and Oglebay Hall and Old Main Tower in Bethany.

    9:00 am-noon
Meet at Rich Mountain Visitor's Center, Files Creek Road, Beverly. Tour will include 1808 Courthouse (unrestored); Lemuel Chenoweth & David Goff houses (restored); Randolph Co. Museum, guided walking tour of Historic Beverly, and a few surprises! 
Cost: $10.00 additional

    Noon until 9:00 p.m.
At Randolph County Community Arts Center (RCCAC) located at the corner of Randolph Ave. & Park St., Elkins. Displays and information available.
  • Restoration Workshop Tour
    1: 00 p.m - 4:30 p.m.
Visit special Elkins homes representing different stages of rehabilitation progress. Experienced preservation professionals willuse examples from the houses to illustrate their suggestions and answer your questions.
Leave from RCCAC at I p.m., car pool.
  • Downtown Elkins Walking Tour
    5: 00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Guided tour of the Downtown Elkins Historic District, including the Darden House and the Railroad Depot. Leave from RCCAC at 5 p.m.
  • Welcome Reception at RCCAC
    6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Enjoy this example of preservation in action in the previously doomed historic Catholic Church. Refreshments, silent auction, and entertainment

EVENT DETAILS

Come to Historic Elkins and Randolph County this fall to share in the excitement of preservation projects in action, and get your questions answered about how to do it yourself.

A wide variety of offered tours include Historic Beverly, hands-on tour of Elkins house restoration projects, Downtown Elkins Historic District, and Graceland Inn and Halliehurst Mansion.

Friday conference activities will center around the newly rehabilitated Randolph County Community Arts Center (the former St.Brendan's Catholic Church.) On Saturday, enjoy the beautiful Davis & Elkins College Campus.

The Keynote speaker will be W. Douglas Gilpin, Jr., FAIA/NCARB.
