Developing a coordinated Statewide Heritage Tourism program for West Virginia is a primary goal of the PAWV Heritage Tourism grant project, which is funded by the Benedum Foundation. For about two years, a working group of state agency and non-profit volunteers have been working together to develop recommendations for the best "home" and structure for this program. Last fall the group recommended that the statewide program be housed in the West Virginia Development Office. The Development Office is enthusiastic about adding this role, and although it was too late to get direct funding authorized for this year's budget, they have offered interim support from the WV Main Street Office. The Heritage Tourism Steering Committee in addition to the Development Office and PAWV also includes representatives from Division of Tourism, SHPO, State Parks, Division of Highways, and other state agencies and existing heritage tourism projects. The committee will be meeting in June for a strategic planning session to being structuring a future program.
Currently, a part-time program coordinator position is open for a consultant to
initiate and organize the program. To apply, send letter of interest, proposal
