Outgoing PAWV President Notes Organization Initiatives and Progress

The expiration of my three year term as president of PAWV in September of this year allows us to take a moment and look at what the organization has accomplished in the last three years.

The Heritage Tourism pilot program in north central West Virginia has successfully been executed. With the generous financial support from the Benedum Foundation, the state of West Virginia, and the dedicated staff of our prime consultant Terrell Ellis and Associates, the Pioneers to Mountaineers heritage tourism area has laid the ground work for future similar initiatives in the state.

As always, PAWV continued to provide its regular programming to the community. These include our annual conferences, recently held in Logan, Weston, and Elkins. We also continued our Endangered Sites List and our sponsorship of History Day at the State Capitol.

Lastly, on a technical note, we transitioned from an operating budget based substantially on National Trust for Historic Preservation Statewide
Initiative Grants to a self sustaining organization supported through generous donations from members like you. Your support mandates that the preservation of historic resources is important for West Virginians. As witness to this, I would like to thank the State Historic Preservation Office, as well as your board members, many of whom have exhausted substantial time and energy to keep our organization growing. The continued vitality of the organization is secure with the continued involvement of these individuals.
