Tax Credits

Tax credits for approved preservation work on historic buildings are among the most useful tools to encourage appropriate historic rehabilitation. Federal tax credits are available for 20 per cent of a commercial project’s approved work. In addition, West Virginia also offers an additional 10 per cent for commercial projects and 20 per cent for homeowner residential projects. These credits have helped property owners afford repairs and improvements while retaining historic integrity, benefiting communities statewide.
