Skirmish at Bath (Berkley Springs).  Major General Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson attacks Union forces in Bath.  He attempts to destroy the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal as well as the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.  This is the start of Jackson’s Romney Campaign.

Battle of Shepherdstown.   After the Battle of Antietam General Robert E. Lee withdraws across the Potomac River.  General George B. McClellan sends troops across the Potomac to pursue the Confederates.  This action results in the largest Civil War battle on West Virginia soil.

Skirmish at Sinking Creek.  In action against Confederate forces at Sinking Creek Valley, Virginia, on November 26, 1862, Major William Powell displayed great courage and leadership. During a raid on the enemy, with but twenty men, he charged and captured the enemy's camp, 500 strong, without the loss of man or gun.
